A workmate of mine and myself was so lucky to spend 1 hour together with the brand new Audi A6. We were invited by Harald A. Møller to see and test a selection of new Audi A6 models two weeks before they were introduced to the public. Who would say no to such an opportunity!
At first we were given 15 minutes presentations of all technical data about the cars, ranging from safety equipment to interior colours.
There was a free selection amoung 15 cars in total. I ended up in an Audi A6 2.4 24V with manual gearshift. Not a bad choice really, as I was a bit to late to grab the A6 2.8 Quattro. Maybe 25 minutes of testdraving along Maridalsvannet is a bit short, but the car felt really good. Wheelspin is effectively eliminated because of EDS (electronic diff. brake). Of course, I had to test how the car did without EDS. The result? Not exactly a "burn out", but quite a lot of spin anyway.
I was impressed by a lot of things, both the smashing interiar and the exiting exterior, but also the wheel size. The A6 was rollong on 205/55-16. That's not far from my own car, which uses 205/45-16 with Pirelli P7000.
The most negative aspect about the new A6 is its price, which is more than NOK 100000 more expensive than the new VW Passat with only 6cm shorter wheelbase. Even if they say the A6 is cheaper than its predecessor, I will have to wait a few years before I can afford one.
